Title: Itallian-Ottoman war

Thema: as the title

Designer: Joe Miranda

System:

Basically a land combat game including the effect of Sea battle and the first air bombing by airship.

The game uses AP for activating one stack to move and then attack. Also, APs can be used to recruit new units.

APs can be gained by die roll each turn and also got by placing leaders on map or controlling ports and oasis.

Itallian must first amphibious assault to the coastline and then march inland.

Stacking limit is unusually high ( 8 units ). So, it is not difficult for Itallian to have a big stack and land to the coast with Naval gunfire and/or air support. The combat is resolved by firepower CRT with order. The order is determined by die roll with modifier of leader and air support for each combat. Town and entrenchment give defenders favorable column shift to weaken the attacking effect.

Since Itallian has enough power to drive Ottoman into the dessert, Ottoman would like to have their force dispersed and get time by defending as many hexes as possible.

Itallian can have sudden death victory by controlling all towns simultaneously. At first, I think it is almost impossible. But, after my first play if Itallian has careful invasion plan and would have good die roll especially for earlier amphibious invasions, it is not totally impossible.

The game uses bigger counter and low density of units. So, it is really playable. And it is fun to form the stack and move then attack.

This is really accessible game.

Also, since the area is fought by Rommel in WW2, most of towns are really acquainted for wargamers.

Conclusion:

A nice beer and pretzel game from Miranda. And still this gives us the atmosphere of the war without cumbersome detailed rules.
